Viscri (German: Deutschweißkirch or simply Weißkirch; Hungarian: Szászfehéregyháza), is best known for its highly fortified church, originally built around 1100 AD. Although it is one of the many saxon villages with fortified churches in Transylvania, its exceptional preservation as a whole allowed it to be designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993. That was the year when a struggle to restore and maintain the look of the houses using traditional techniques and materials started and is still on since. A well known natural and cultural conservationist, King Charles III, still Prince of Wales at the time, enjoyed the idea of owning a home in such a unique, well preserved place. His almost yearly visits kept sending the otherwise quiet, lost in time village straight to the headlines.
Viscri 44 is just below the Viscri Fortified Church. The current main building was erected in 1851 by the Saxon Michael Orend, as the main beam states. The guesthouse went through a massive refurbishment in 2019-2021 and reopened after a two years break. The guests have the chance to enjoy rooms decorated with authentic, good quality rustic antiques, paired with a lot of character and modern comfort .
If you rejoice the idea of sitting in a room with original river stone walls, if you love the chisel marks that have slowly turned a trunk into a beam or a boulder into a well or a trough, if in the evening you like to gaze at the stars while enjoying a drink with friends and in the morning you can be amused by the sounds of geese roaming in the street (and yes, despite the risks, you will not be afraid to head to the blooming hills where the cows have scrolled earlier ) … then Viscri is the perfect choice, and Viscri 44 is waiting for you! Viscri este satul săsesc unde timpul parcă s-a oprit. Un loc in care seara iti poti auzi inima batand si gandurile zburand libere in aerul curat si inmiresmat de iarba proaspat cosita. Si pentru ca satul a pastrat inca aroma si imaginea vietii de acum cateva sute de ani, a devenit componenta a patrimoniului UNESCO.
In sat locuiesc inca urmasi ai vechilor saxoni colonizati aici, pentru ca, prin darzenia si organizarea lor exemplara, sa fie o adevarata pavaza in calea invaziilor tatare si otomane. Colonii germani au lasat aici mostenire cea mai veche biserica fortificata din Transilvania (1210).
Cel mai faimos “satean” din Viscri este, fara indoiala, insusi Regele Charles III al Regatului Unit. Vizitele lui anuale, cu mici exceptii, dovedesc atasamentul lui fata de acest loc unic. Pasiunea pentru natura si istorie l-au facut un adevarat ambasador al unui sat a carei frumusete merita descoperita de toti cei care sunt pregatiti sa o faca.
Viscri 44, pe strada Bisericii nr. 44, la doi pași de biserica-cetate fortificată, este o gospodarie întemeiată de familia Orend în 1851. Casa a a trecut printr-un proces amplu de renovare in 2019-2021 și și-a redeschis porțile după doi ani de pauză. Veți putea să vă bucurați de camere decorate cu obiecte rustice autentice, de calitate, dar si cu suflet propriu, poezie si totodată confort modern.
Dacă vă umple de bucurie ideea de a sta într-o încapere cu pereți ridicati din pietre de râu, dacă vibrați când vedeți urmele de daltă care au desprins o grindă din trunchi sau o fantana dintr-o roca, dacă seara vă place să priviți cerut invadat de stele la un pahar de vorbă și dimineața vă amuză un cârd de gâște sfădindu-se pe o uliță (și da, nu vă e teamă să porniți spre dealurile înflorite pe unde mai devreme au defilat vacile, cu riscurile de rigoare)… atunci Viscri este alegerea perfectă, iar Viscri 44 vă așteaptă cu brațele deschise. Să fim copii din nou și să ne bucurăm de lucrurile simple cu înțelepciunea maturității.
